Cohiba cigar: the most prestigious Cuban cigar
Cuban cigar brand Cohiba is currently the most famous after it dethroned Montecristo. Its elaboration dates from the Castro revolution and it is the fruit of an immeasurable passion of its creators. This cigar was once at the center of the country's international relations. Cuban leaders offered it as a gift to their counterparts in foreign countries. The particularity of Cohiba lies in its manufacturing process which follows a triple fermentation. Three of the four tobacco leaves making up the cigars (Seco, Ligero and Medio Tiempo) are fermented in barrels. The end result is a cigar combining roundness and unequaled complexity. Our online sales site offers you a wide selection of boxes of Cohiba, as well as different varieties of renowned singles.

The legend of the Cohiba cigar
Fidel Castro succumbed to the taste of Cohiba
According to court rumors from the ex-president, Fidel Castro would have ordered the worldwide production of the Cohiba. One day, the revolutionary, already a connoisseur of cigars, tasted a sample belonging to one of his guards. He was surprised by the balance and the aromas developed by the puffs he had just tasted. Even the design of these cigars was of exceptional quality. The enthusiasm of the Head of State was such that he summoned the craftsman behind this creation, who was named Eduardo Ribera.

The beginnings of the production of cigars signed Cohiba
A small workshop was set up to accommodate a team of torcedores or tobacco rollers, by order of Castro and under the supervision of Ribera. The craftsman therefore trained his apprentices in aging leaves in barrels and how to roll them.
The villa where the activities took place bears the name of El Laguito and is still in use today in order to satisfy aficionados from all over the world. In 1966, the Cohiba brand was officially founded. Cigars from the cigar factory were for several years intended exclusively for smoking by El Comandante. He was the only one who could offer the cigars to high officials, even other heads of state.

Specificities of Cohiba cigars
Cohiba tobacco and its cultivation
Cohiba is the name of the aromatic leaf wrapping the cigars of the aborigines. The tobacco to produce the brand's cigars is grown in the Pinar de Rio region, located in Cuba. It is famous for being the place where the best existing tobaccos are produced. The soil is volcanic which makes it very fertile while bringing flavors and aromas specific to Cohiba tobacco. The company owns the farms and keeps the exact location of its farms secret.

Skilled craftsmen to wrap cigars
To be able to enter the class of Cohiba habanos, strict specifications regulate the plantation of tobacco. Moreover, only highly skilled torcedores can undertake cigar rolling. Hence the very limited number of artisans within the company. Indeed, it takes several years to have good dexterity to handle tobacco leaves.
All of this is done to ensure quality control for the brand's premium products. The Cuban company can today rank as the most expensive cigar brand internationally. From now on, Cohiba habanos are recognizable by a specific holographic band in order to avoid any counterfeiting.

Cohiba cigar and alcohol pairings
Finally, we reveal the good pairings of Cohiba cigars and alcohols. Rum and cognac are alcohols suitable for all types of cigars. For a rather powerful habanos prefer a dark rum or an old cognac. In the case of an association with whiskey, a Single Malt from the Highlands goes well with a long cigar in the mouth. A scotch is recommended for a strong cigar. Irish whiskeys are best sipped with a medium cigar.
