How to recognize a real quality cigar?
Rely on the appearance of the cigar
Know that it is essential to keep a cigar at a humidity level of 70% so that it keeps a good appearance. Below this rate, for example, cigars risk becoming too dry over the course of their storage. This can result in products that crack. When you receive your product, check that there are no tears, mainly at both ends of the cigar. The wrapper should also not peel off or be split.

Check the cigar by touch
Testing the cigar is also essential to confirm if a vitola is too dry or, on the contrary, too wet. In general, a quality product shows just a slight resistance. However, a cigar that is too wet will be spongy. When it is too dry, it is almost impossible to press it with your fingers. However, it is entirely possible to consume a cigar that is too wet or too dry, but it is best to treat these beforehand.

With all the brands, shapes and colors available on the market, how do you choose?
Choice of module
We call module the format of your cigar, that is to say its shape, its length and its diameter. A distinction is made between straight cigars or pajeros and non-straight or figurado cigars. The length of the cigar is expressed in millimeters, centimeters or even inches. The diameter or cepo is rather measured in 64ths of an inch, an inch is equivalent to 2.54 cm.

What is the link between module and taste?
A large module does not necessarily always mean a powerful cigar. Indeed, a large cigar is rolled less tightly, so that the draw is done more easily. The opposite case occurs for a small cigar: with a tight rolling of the tobacco leaves, a stronger product is obtained. However, many exceptions contradict these rules, because several parameters come into play (tobacco growing region, choice of leaves, fermentation, maturation, drying, etc.).

How to make a choice ?
We advise new smokers to opt for the small modules. The most appropriate choices are rather oriented towards a corona or a small robusto. Insiders can diversify the modules in order to find the one that meets your expectations.

Here are some indices of the smoking time of the most consumed modules:
- small corona, between 30 and 45 min
- corona, about 45 min
- small robusto, between 45 min and 1 h
- robusto, between 1 h and 1 h 30
- toro, about 1h 30
These times may vary depending on other parameters. Another generality is to suggest that a fine cigar burns more quickly.

What to know about cigar color
The color of a cigar does not determine its potency, which is rather a function of its nicotine level. The choice of leaf used for the wrapper is essentially based on the aesthetic and taste aspect. Here again, several names correspond to the colors of this sheet wrapping the leaves: double caro (yellow or green wrapper), oscuro (black chocolate wrapper or maduro (black wrapper).

What defines the taste of a cigar?
The strength, the taste of the tobacco, as well as the aromas of the leaves are the main factors affecting the final taste of a cigar. Moreover, these components are both linked and quite distinct.
There are, for example, cigars that are not very powerful, but develop a great complexity of aromas. This is particularly the case of Robusto del Flor de Selva which is a puro from Honduras. Other products are very potent, but with little aroma. Everyone has their own preferences and do not hesitate to multiply the tastings.

A person who does not like strong alcohols is not likely to appreciate a powerful cigar. If you like beer, for example, choose a mild to medium-strong module. Wine lovers prefer pairing them with a medium-strong cigar. If you prefer whiskey and spirits, you can enjoy a powerful cigar. Here again the rule is not absolute. A beginner may quite like a strong product.
The choice of a cigar is also based on the terroir and the brand of the product.
The terroirs of our cigars
The first cigars were born in Cuba, but following the embargo, other countries began to offer new offers. Nicaragua, Honduras and the Dominican Republic are the other major cigar exporters.
The Dominican Republic mainly offers light products. Nicaraguan cigars are quite strong with peppery aromas. It is also the land of the puros. Honduran cigars have much the same characteristics as Nicaraguan products.
Be aware that other countries have also embarked on the production of cigars, such as Ecuador, Mexico, Cameroon and the United States. So many brands to discover on our international cigar shop.
Cuba remains the richest region, but that does not necessarily mean that its cigars are the best on the market. Cuban cigar brands are of varying quality. The range is wide, ranging from mild to strong habanos. Prices also vary depending on the product sought. An offer accessible to all, whether it is a more or less basic cigar for daily consumption or if the cigar is intended to be smoked for a special occasion.
You now have some tips on how to buy the cigar that will meet your expectations if you are a beginner. For a true connoisseur, we will be happy to find you the rare pearl from the end of the world.
