Buy an Arturo Fuente and discover the story of a centuries-old legend

Manufacture Arturo Fuente : from tragedy to success

It was in 1912 that a 24-year-old Cuban immigrant launched his business of manufacturing habanos with tobacco directly imported from his native land. Arturo Fuente founds Fuente & Co in West Tampa, Florida. In just 12 years of existence, his factory has experienced strong growth and has 500 employees responsible for hand-rolling tobacco from Cuba.
The Florida factories are ravaged by a fire and the young Cuban is forced to stop his activities for the first time for 22 years. Arturo Fuente relaunches his activity in his garage, joined by his two sons Carlos and Arturo. Fuente cigars did not experience the expected growth, the father decided to sell his business to Carlos Fuente in 1958. Cuban tobacco leaves are replaced by Nicaraguan tobacco leaves: production migrates to Esteli after several trials of different tobaccos. The Arturo Fuente factories were burned down a second time in 1979.

The Dominican Republic is the promised land to reconnect with success. Carlos Fuente, still enthusiastic, mortgaged his house to invest in the construction of a new factory in Santiago.

The legendary Fuente brand with its singular journey is famous among a large number of smokers for its range of the most accomplished cigars in the world. Like the Opus X range, the Hemingway and Château lines. The company produces over 30 million cigars per year.

What is an Arturo Fuente Dominican Cigar?

Arturo Fuente Opus X is a mythical line among the cigar offer of the brand of Cuban cigars produced in the Dominican Republic. These are cigars from the series initiated by Carlos Fuente in 1992, made from 100% nine hand-rolled tobacco leaves from Santo Domingo. The cigars are left to rest for two years after their manufacture before being exported. About the Forbidden X cigars, evolution of the classic Opus X, it is the best recognized torcedores of the family who take care of all the process until the exceptional aging of more than ten years. This production takes place in the privacy of Château la Fuente, in a dedicated room. This series benefits from the designation of origin Dominican cigar (all the leaves come from this region).

Château Fuente cigars offer a moderately strong power, they are composed of Dominican tripe leaves and binder. Connecticut wrapper leaves are imported from Ecuador, then fermented a second time at Tabacalera Fuente.

The Arturo Fuente modules of the Gran Reserva range and the Don Carlos range are composed of a mixture of Dominican and Cameroonian tobaccos. The Arturo Fuente Gran Reserva ring is easily recognizable by its green border, that of the Hemingway Carlos Fuente modules is circled in black at the foot of the ring. These last modules contain Connecticut Maduro wrapper leaves matured for five years in cognac barrels. The mixture of Dominican and African tobaccos (sweet note) brings power and finesse to the new cigars.
The Carlos Fuente Robusto module combines leaves from Cameroon and the Dominican Republic, whose wrapper comes from a 1984 harvest fermented in two stages.

As a tribute to his grandfather Carlos Fuente Sr, Carlito Fuente Jr. creates the Don Carlos Edicion de Aniversario Double Robusto range. This series dedicated to the founder of the brand has a Sungrown Habano wrapper (leaves exposed to the open air without the protective tapado fabrics) wrapping the 145 mm module. The filler is matched with a clever blend of tobacco from the Dominican Republic, rolled by hand like the whole cigar.

Offered since 2004 in limited edition red and black boxes, the Fuente God of Fire series of cigars refer to Greek mythology and the fire fight between Prometheus and Zeus. Each module is decorated with two rings: a ring representing a huge rock with Prometheus attacked by an eagle; the second ring indicates the year of manufacture of the module.

Carlos Fuente also launched Arturo Fuente Rosado cigars with wrapper leaf from Ecuador in December 2009 to enjoy a peppery and smooth aromatic palette. Dominican Gran Reserva tripe and binder aged 8-10 years to produce an aromatic and smooth smoke. These cigars are characterized by their velvety smoothness and exquisite roundness without bitterness when drawn.

Why Buy Arturo Fuente Cigars?

Secret of the Fuente family's production and the magic of nature

The manufacturing specifications for Dominican blended cigars are strict. Fresh green tobacco from the family's farms is hung in drying racks after harvest. This process allows the moisture to slowly evaporate over 6 weeks for the first gradual transformation of the leaves. They are then fermented and aged for years for the first time to be rolled by hand. The tripe, binder and wrapper leaves harmonize and form a perfect unity and balance.

As they age, the taste of the combined tobaccos improves and the cigars go through a second phase of maturation for a minimum of two to three years in the dedicated room within the grounds of the Fuente castle. The taste of cigars reaches its peak in balance and complexity.
