Cameroonian tobacco grows in Sun Grown (in the open air without the protective "tapado" webs), which gives them a particular aromatic richness. They have more fat and have trapped, thanks to photosynthesis, many more aromatic molecules than tobaccos that grow under canvas. Also, the terroir of Cameroon has the particularity of giving a "sweet" note, an indication of great sunshine and perfect maturity. The major factor that differentiates the “Don Carlos” range from the Arturo Fuente “Gran Reserva” is the choice of tobaccos used as well as their ageing.

Indeed, on the “Don Carlos” range, both tripe and wrapper tobaccos are chosen after a long maturation of at least three years. After the manufacture, they will still have to wait another year of breeding before being exported. These cigars are much more complex than their much thinner, green-rimmed little brethren and are a benchmark for the industry as well as aficionados.
