H.Upmann

The adventure of this brand began in Bremen, Germany, where the brothers August and Hermann Upmann (or according to some the "Hupmann" family) came from. Hermann, a banker by profession, is passionate about Habanos as soon as he arrives in Cuba. He created in 1844 - 4 years after his arrival on the island - his own brand and his own factory. His bank will go bankrupt in 1920 but his cigars are a real hit. The light and complex character of Upmann cigars is a resounding success. Passing into English hands in the mid-1920s, the brand was finally bought by Menéndez y Garcia in 1937 when they had just launched Montecristo. Today the H. Upmann factory occupies the premises which were originally those of Partagas. Upmann brand vitolas are generally mild to light-bodied.
