St. Luis Rey

Two theories clash as to the origin of the brand name. Some suggest that it originated in the village of San Juan in Vuelta Abajo. Others say that the name was inspired by the novel The Bridge of San Luis Rey published in 1927 in the USA. In fact, the brand was registered in 1938 by two English importers (Keyser & Silverstone). In 1960, Silverstone obtained a renewal of contract with the Cuban authorities granting it the rights to distribute the brand for a period of 30 years, ending in 1990. In the meantime, there was in particular in Germany a brand distributed by Habanos under the name of San Luis Rey which disappeared in 2000. Today therefore Saint Luis Rey is distributed worldwide by Habanos. The vitolas of the Saint Luis Rey brand are generally full-bodied.
