Hoyo De Monterrey

Hoyo de Monterrey owes its birth to a plantation in San Juan y Martinez, in the heart of the queen tobacco region of Vuelta Abajo. On the village square you can still see the entrance gate of the plantation marked "Hoyo de Monterrey, José Gener 1860". Catalan by origin, José Gener immigrated to Cuba in 1831 at the age of 13. With his uncle he founded the factory "La Escepciõn" in 1851. In 1900 it was the largest Cuban factory with 350 employees and a production of 50 million cigars. In the 1940s the company to develop Zino Davidoff 's famous range of Hoyo De Monterrey Castles (Margaux, Lafite, Latour, Haut Brion and Yquem): it was only in 1967, Zino Davidoff decide to put its label on these cigars. Today the brand's most famous cigars are the Epicure No 1, Epicure 2, the Double Coronas and the latest, the Petit Robusto. The Hoyo de Monterrey range is of moderate power. They are classified among the rather mild Havanas.
